Joe Gebbia joined forces with friend and fellow Rhode Island School of Design graduate, Brian Chesky, and programmer Nathan Blecharczyk to found Airbnb in 2008. Gebbia describes himself as a "multi-disciplinary designer, creative entrepreneur, and global explorer," sharing his life, travel and ideas on his website and blog, and on Twitter. He is also a part-time design partner and mentor at Y Combinator, the investment group that provided Airbnb its first seed funding in 2009. Gebbia is an enthusiast for mid-century architecture and design - his dream is to book a night through Airbnb at California's Eames Case Study House No. 8. Gebbia is a donor to Rhode Island School of Design, where he also serves on the Board of Trustees.

Charitable Board Service
I want to devote my resources to bring the moment of instantiation, when someone who has an idea sees it become real, to as many people as I can. It can unlock the understanding that they can make things happen, that they can shape the world around them. I want to enable as many people as possible, especially in underprivileged communities, to experience this magic firsthand.
